How do I message my customers in the app?

Direct communication is one of the best ways to secure a 5-star rating and build a loyal customer base. The LawnGuru app provides a built-in messaging system so you can coordinate with clients without sharing your personal phone number.

How to start a conversation or connect with your customer

If you need to ask a question about property access or provide a specific update, you can initiate a chat from your route:

  1. Tap the Route tab in the bottom navigation.

  2. Select the Customer you wish to contact.

  3. Tap the Options (•••) button.

  4. Tap Message to open the chat window.

Automated notifications

LawnGuru helps you keep the customer informed by sending automated text alerts when:

  • You accept a job: Lets them know a pro will be doing the work.

  • You’re En Route: Triggered when you tap the "Got to job" button.

  • The job is complete: Sent once you upload your completion photos.

When to send a personal message

While automation handles the basics, "going the extra mile" with a personal note can prevent complaints and boost tips. We highly recommend messaging your customer when:

  • Weather or Mechanical Delays: If rain or a broken mower puts you behind schedule, a quick text keeps the customer from worrying or calling support.

  • First-Time Service: A simple "Hi, I'm [Name], I'll be your pro today!" builds immediate trust.

  • Answering Questions: Always respond promptly if a customer reaches out to you with specific instructions.

Managing your chats

You can view and reply to all active conversations in one place:

  1. Tap the Messages tab in the navigation bar.

  2. New or unread messages are marked with a blue badge.

  3. Tap a customer's name to open the conversation and reply.

Pro Tip: You will receive a push notification whenever a customer messages you. You’ll also see a red badge on the Messages icon—make sure to check this regularly to ensure no customer is left waiting.
