How do I release a job?

Edited

Maintaining a reliable schedule is key to your success on LawnGuru. However, we understand that circumstances change. If you realize you cannot complete a job you’ve accepted, you must Release it immediately so another provider can pick it up.

How to release a job

  1. Open the job card in the LawnGuru Provider app.

  2. Tap the Service Options (•••) button.

  3. Select Release Job.

  4. Choose the reason for the release and tap Submit.

Timing and fees

To keep our marketplace fair for both pros and customers, the timing of your release matters:

  • Before the Due Date: You can release a job at any time before its scheduled due date without penalty. This gives the system enough time to re-pair the customer with a new pro.

  • On the Due Date: Releasing a job on the day it is due is highly inconvenient for the customer and may result in a release fee. Last-minute releases are a leading cause of customer cancellations.

  • Expired/Overdue Jobs: If a job remains on your board past its due date and you have not serviced or released it, the job will expire. This results in an automatic $25 expiration fee and a negative impact on your provider rating.

When to message instead of release

If you have a minor delay—such as a temporary equipment issue or a flat tire—but still intend to service the property, do not release the job. Instead, use the in-app chat to message the customer. Most customers are happy to approve a short extension if you communicate with them proactively. If you cannot service the property within 24 hours of the delay, it is better to release the job so the customer isn't left waiting.

Cancellation vs. Release

Before you hit release, ensure you are using the correct tool:

  • Release: Use this if you are unable to do the work, but the lawn is still "mowable" for someone else.

  • Request Cancellation: Use this ONLY if the property is unserviceable (e.g., a locked gate, a dog in the yard, or the grass has already been cut).

Pro Tip: To maintain a high rating and avoid fees, only accept jobs you are confident you can service within the requested timeframe.
